Care
Q: How should I clean pottery?
A: Hand-washing pottery using mild (dish)soap, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge is recommended. Avoid harsh abrasives or scrubbing brushes that might damage the glaze or surface decorations.
Q: Are items microwave-safe?
A: Generally, yes, however, there are a few exceptions. Avoid putting pottery that has obvious cracks and chips in the glaze into the microwave. Excess moisture absorbed during washing, when heated in the microwave, may cause items to crack or break. Always ensure your pottery is well-dried after washing before using it in the microwave. Additionally, placing extremely cold pottery directly into a hot microwave or vice versa can cause stress on the material and lead to breakage.
NEVER microwave ware with gold decoration! Avoid microwaving pieces with gold lusters or metallic decorations, as they may cause sparks in the microwave and damage both the pottery and the appliance.
Q: Are items dishwasher safe?
A: The short answer is yes, however, handmade pottery should be treated a little differently than your typical wares. Hand washing is always best, and will ensure a long life for them. The exception is ware with gold decoration! Gold will wash off in a dishwasher and hand-washing is required.
Q: Can I use my pottery in the oven?
A: Our pottery is generally safe for both, but avoid microwaving pieces with gold lusters or metallic decorations or things may get sparky!
Q: Can I transfer pottery directly from the freezer to the oven or microwave?
A. Transferring pottery directly from the freezer to a preheated oven or microwave can cause thermal shock and damage the pottery. Allow pottery to gradually reach room temperature before placing it in a heated appliance. You can warm up your pots under warm tap water before pouring hot water into them. Boiling water should not be poured directly into your pieces.
